It’s always such a pleasure to be able to work with incredible individuals and organizations dedicated to making a positive impact in the world. Recently, I collaborated with Evelyn Morris, the founder of the DEKM Fund, an organization committed to advocating for overlooked causes and amplifying the stories of the underrepresented. Together with the talented Kristin from Storybook Road Creative Agency and the brilliant copywriter Emily Aborn, we created a digital home that would not only showcase the DEKM Fund’s mission but also inspire others to join their fight for change.
The Spark of Inspiration
Evelyn’s story is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering determination. When her daughter, Kate, was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in 2014, Evelyn and her husband, David, faced an unimaginable battle. Through their journey, they witnessed firsthand the power of funding research and the impact it can have on saving lives. Kate’s survival ignited a spark within Evelyn and David, leading them to become involved with DIPG, a devastating brain tumor that primarily affects children. Driven by the belief that “this is not OK” and “someone needs to do something,” Evelyn and David founded the DEKM Fund as a catalyst for change.
Bringing the Vision to Life
When Evelyn approached me with her vision for the DEKM Fund website, I knew it was an opportunity to create something truly awesome. The branding, skillfully crafted by Kristin at Storybook Road Creative Agency, set the foundation for a visually compelling and emotionally resonant design. Emily Aborn’s captivating copy beautifully conveyed the organization’s mission and the stories of those they support. My role was to weave these elements together, creating a seamless and impactful user experience that would inspire visitors to take action.
Designing for Impact
Throughout the design process, I focused on showcasing the DEKM Fund’s core values and the difference they are making in the world. The website features powerful imagery and testimonials that highlight the stories of individuals and communities impacted by overlooked diseases and challenges. Clear calls to action encourage visitors to learn more and get involved with the cause. By strategically placing these elements throughout the site, we aimed to create a sense of urgency and inspire visitors to become part of the DEKM Fund community.
